Apprenticeship Program - KID Museum. Check out KID Museum’s Apprenticeship Program! The Apprenticeship Program at KID Museum is modeled on successful mentor and explainer programs in world- renowned science centers across the country that cultivate youth as facilitators for a comprehensive educational experience. Apprentices will work directly with the lead artists and makers as well as the museum’s creative director and program managers to help deliver successful programming, which builds on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and arts skills. The maker activities at KID Museum require a level of engagement and persistence that is supported by the role of apprentices as staff extenders. Under this program, participants will be responsible for directly assisting with the facilitation of workshops, programming activities and museum exhibits. Apprentices often develop a lifelong interest in sciences and arts and many are inspired to pursue careers in these fields following their apprenticeships. Specific duties for KID Museum apprentices, in addition to program interpretation, will include: supplies and materials maintenance, floor management, workshop registration facilitation, programming development, exhibit planning, and visitor services. In addition to earning Student Service Learning hours, Apprentices also have the opportunity to receive the President’s Volunteer Service Award, one of the premier volunteer and service recognition programs. On- going training for apprentices will be held in a variety of contexts with museum personnel involved in programming, education, exhibits and operations. The training will provide apprentices with the skills that they need to be successful not only during their commitment to KID Museum, but as well as in their professional careers. Apprentice applicants should possess a love of learning and desire to engage with the public.
